In the world of outdoor furniture, durability, safety, and performance are non-negotiable. Whether it’s a stylish outdoor sofa for your backyard, a robust metal dining set for a commercial patio, or a relaxing swing chair for your garden, each piece must withstand the rigors of real-world use. At Wuyi Sailing Leisure Products Co., Ltd., we take this responsibility seriously. One of the critical methods we use to ensure product quality and longevity is Internal Product Load Testing. This article provides a detailed look at how we conduct these tests and why they matter for our customers worldwide.

Why Load Testing Matters for Outdoor Furniture

Outdoor furniture is exposed to unique stressors not found in indoor environments—fluctuating temperatures, UV radiation, humidity, and prolonged weight loads. Whether your furniture is made of metal, wicker (rattan), or Teslin mesh, it’s vital that it performs reliably under all conditions.

Internal Product Load Testing is our way of simulating these stressors in a controlled environment. It helps us answer key questions:

  • Will this swing chair remain stable under dynamic weight?
  • Can the outdoor dining table hold a full spread without sagging or shifting?
  • Does the sofa maintain its structure under repeated use?

By answering these questions through rigorous testing, we ensure your customers enjoy not only beautiful design, but also long-lasting quality.

Our Internal Product Load Testing Process

We integrate Internal Product Load Testing into our production process long before the products leave our factory. Below is an overview of how we test our metal and wicker outdoor furniture, including sofas, dining tables, loungers, and swings.

Step 1 – Initial Product Assessment

Before any testing begins, our design and engineering teams review each product’s construction and materials. We evaluate factors such as:

  • Frame structure and welding quality
  • Material strength (aluminum, steel, synthetic wicker, Teslin)
  • Fastening points and load-bearing elements

We align our evaluation with international standards such as EN581, which provides specific requirements for outdoor seating and tables.

Step 2 – Static Load Testing

In static load tests, we simulate the effect of constant weight on a product over a prolonged period. For example:

  • Outdoor sofas are loaded with weighted sandbags equivalent to the average human body weight, placed on the seat and armrests.
  • Dining tables are tested with heavy loads at the center and edges to ensure they remain balanced and structurally sound.
  • Sun loungers undergo incline loading to verify the recline positions are stable and secure.

This step reveals potential stress points that could compromise safety or comfort.

Step 3 – Dynamic Load Testing

Real life isn’t static, and neither is our testing. Dynamic load testing involves simulating movement—such as a person sitting down, leaning back, or shifting their weight.

  • For outdoor swings, we use a repetitive motion machine to mimic back-and-forth movement under various weight loads.
  • We apply cyclic pressure to Teslin mesh loungers to observe how well the material retains its shape and elasticity.
  • Rattan chairs are tested with repeated compression to monitor how the weaving withstands long-term use.

This test identifies how products will perform under everyday usage.

Step 4 – Environmental Resistance Testing

In combination with load testing, we also simulate environmental conditions such as UV exposure, moisture, and corrosion:

  • Salt spray testing for metal parts to test anti-rust performance
  • UV light testing for plastic or synthetic rattan to test colorfastness
  • Moisture and temperature cycling to observe structural expansion or contraction

These tests ensure the furniture maintains both appearance and functionality across all seasons.

Step 5 – Compliance & Certification

After testing, each product must meet or exceed relevant quality benchmarks. Our internal standards are backed by international certifications, including:

  • BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative)
  • ISO Quality Management Systems
  • REACH compliance for chemical safety
  • EN581 standards for outdoor furniture safety
  • Teslin Testing Reports
  • Rattan (Wicker) Testing Reports

These certifications ensure not just performance, but also regulatory compliance for customers across Europe, North America, and beyond.
